Grapes are hand-harvested from small parcels low yielding vines. The grapes are crushed then pumped into 2tonne open fermenters and inoculated immediately. The ferment is allowed to reach 30°C and pumped over regularly with oxygen added during the peak of ferment. This allows maximum extraction of the fine grape tannins and colour from the skins. After fermentation the wine is run off into French Oak barrels, 20% being new, for 16 months maturation. The wine is pumped into tank prior to bottling and again minimal fining (egg white) and filtration is carried out.
Deep and vibrant red colour.
A bouquet of blackcurrant and blueberry fruits backed by light cedar notes from the high-quality French oak.
The forest fruits fill the front palate giving freshness and vibrancy. The cedary French oak is evident yet balanced and combines with the tight Cabernet structure and tannins to give a long powerful finish.
Enjoy now or cellar for up to 15 years.
95pts — Halliday Wine Companion 2020
93/100 — The Wine Front, March 2019
“Everything about this fresh, medium-bodied red is just right, starting with its bright purple-red hue; the savoury tones in hand with the cassis and more plum nuances of malbec. Delicious drinking now.”
95 Pts - Halliday Wine Companion 2020
“It gets the balance between straight-out drinkability and structural sturdiness pretty right. It tastes of boysenberry, blackcurrant, leather, dust and twiggy herbs, the flavours flowing along in juicy style. There's a lightness of touch evident here; it's an easy wine to spend time with.”
92 Pts - Halliday Wine Companion 2020
“This is stern and sturdy in part but frisky and succulent in other. It has drinkability written all over it but it’s structurally sound and it has both weight and texture. Currants, boysenberry, leather, dust and twiggy herbs. It’s in a good place all around.”
